Glazed and Unglazed Tiles. Firstly, there are glazed and unglazed tiles; the glazed tiles can be cleaned very easily and do not stain as often as unglazed tiles. All you need to do is run a mop soaked in warm water with a mild detergent solution across them from time to time. The problem with glazed tiles is that they are very smooth and therefore can be quite slippery. This is dangerous, especially if the kitchen area is prone to water spillage or if there are young children in your home. To avoid this, you could choose unglazed tiles over glazed ones. Unglazed tiles will prevent the floor from being slippery and have an aesthetically pleasing textured surface. Then again, unglazed tiles will not be as durable as glazed ones - they will be relatively more prone to damage because they are not protected by that extra layer of glazing.
Tile flooring comes in many designs and patterns. These range from simple 6 inch by 6 inch squares of a single color to marble tile with natural mixtures of colors to ceramic tiles with ornate designs painted on. Whatever your taste and design style, you are sure to find something that fits your needs. In general, bigger tiles look small spaces look larger, while smaller tiles work better on walls or in larger spaces. Installation Considerations. If you are thinking about installing tile flooring by yourself, there are several things to consider. First, make sure you have an accurate measurement of your room, so you can purchase adequate tile. A good rule of thumb is to buy about 20% more than you think you’ll need. This will provide extra for breakage as well as tiles that have to be cut to fit the space.
Remember that the floor plan includes details not only about the spacing of the rooms inside your home, but also the orientation of the home on your land and any outdoor structures or landscaping to your garden or surrounding land. Commercial floor plans therefore might include verandahs and even pools to complement the main structure. If you choose to create your own flooring you might want to talk to your house builder about how much space can be allocated to a garden or backyard play area for children. They will be able to provide advice on the most convenient organisation of your home, including the placement of essential features such as driveways, garages and entryways.
Once you have your tile, you can pre-cut tiles that will be placed at the edges of the floor if the tile is too large. This means you should do some measuring first. You can also cut the tile while you’re laying it, but then you have to be sure you haven’t laid down the mortar until you’ve made the necessary cuts. Mortar that is only partially dried might not bond with the tile when you set it. You can use a wet ceramic saw or a utility knife to do the cutting. Which you use depends on the thickness of your ceramic tile flooring.
